Bishal Tamang was born with a cleft lip and palate, the facial cleft extending to his nose. At the age of 3 the soft tissues were sutured closed. He’s now 13 and came to our dental camp last month.
Bishal’s mother Bhime is 37, her husband died 2 years ago from cancer leaving her with 3 boys. Her livelihood relies on farming and tending animals. She tries to get some local work to help pay off the massive debt incurred when the family sold some farm land to pay her husband’s medical bills.
We reached out to the Dhulikhel Hospital’s dental specialist team who will take on Bishal as a charity case, keeping the costs as low as possible. He will require surgery, jaw adjustments and more.
We are grateful to this team and to Bishal’s school community for helping him to have a better chance to eat, drink and breathe normally. ...
