Support

There are several ways you can help out in the various programs.

In Australia there are employment opportunities with many organisations. They can be permanent positions, or there are also short term and locum opportunities available.

Volunteering can be done in Australia as well as in overseas projects. These are usually short visits. Generally overseas volunteers pay all their own expenses including travel and accommodation. In Australia some volunteer organisations are able to offer transport and local accommodation support.

Donations of funds are always well received for volunteer projects! Financial donations to Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) projects attract a tax benefit for Australian residents. Other projects might also have these benefits, it’s worth checking before you donate.

Donations of equipment are a bit of a challenge.  In a nutshell, donated equipment must be in good working order, operate with simple controls, have servicing and instruction manuals, and expect another working life of at least 10 years.

If not then it will be too costly to ship elsewhere only to end up in landfill in a country most likely to be without good waste disposal systems.

Fading eastern light over western NSW plains on re-entry to Sydney. Tough visit to Nepal this time. Struggling economy, massive inflation, increasing suicide rates, fewer and fewer jobs. Small wonder the drain of young people coursing out of the country, mainly aged 18-30 years, continues to grow. On average 3-4000 per day. Villages are emptying. Schools are closing due to falling numbers of students. Families are breaking up, leaving the parents to grow into either a lonely retirement in Nepal or face moving to another country where they are with their kids and grandkids but without their daily neighbours and local community. It’s great to see so many beautiful Nepalese working and helping in Australia and other countries, and seeking opportunities they can’t find in their home country but the social, structural and political fracturing back in Nepal is deepening. The next few years will be very interesting. Namaste!!🙏🏽 🙏🏽
